As the newer more recent therapies, including mindfulness, are proving to be even more effective than medication, we feel that it is important to keep up to date with current research and developments in these areas, and we are constantly seeking best practice methodologies and sharing resources among our group.
Clinical Psychologist Maria Davey is our Professional Development Co-ordinator. With her years of experience in the field, she organises the sharing of our resources, as well as sourcing speakers and world class experts for our annual In-House conference, keeping us up to date with the latest research and therapies.
We are very passionate and care deeply about what we do; helping you lead a fuller, more exciting and more fulfilling life.
Here are our experienced psychologists:
"I help clients feel comfortable and supported in various ways - I might invite them to slow down and make “space for how they are feeling”, no need to move on too quickly. This often helps clients to see that how ever they are feeling is OK."
"The most heart-warming feedback I’ve received from a client is...“If it were not for you I would not be here to-day”"
Altona Meadows, Moonee Ponds
"Life is busy and yes, stress comes with this reality. By exploring a client's stress triggers and providing strategies that build their coping response, I really enjoy seeing a client progress from ‘survive’ to ‘thrive.’"
"I enjoy helping stressed clients to calm their thoughts and to help them re-evaluate their situation because when they do they often realise it’s much more manageable or within their control for positive change."
"I love this work because when people come to me feeling stressed, overwhelmed and anxious etc, I see them at their most vulnerable and I can make a positive difference to their lives. It's about making our clients feel more optimistic, less anxious and better equipped to manage the challenges of daily life."
Isle of Capri, Miami
Green Square (Rosebery)
"I help clients feel comfortable and supported by being myself, by taking time that is needed, by listening to understand."
"People with depression are often stuck at a point in their lives – the most rewarding aspect of working with them is assisting them to become unstuck and to get their lives moving in a positive direction again."
"Anxiety is an illness that makes people feel imprisoned and fearful in the world. I find it very satisfying to assist people in finding strategies that enable them to transcend and conquer their anxiety related symptoms."
"Clients have said that I have helped them feel normal rather than “crazy”; that I give them hope; that I give them reasons for why they feel and think what they do; and that I give them practical, workable and often-times healing strategies."
"Clients have said I help them by being understanding, supportive, caring, non-judgemental and direct."
"I love seeing people learn, grow and get back into enjoying life more. I have a particular passion for working with clients to free themselves of the sometimes debilitating symptoms of anxiety, depression and life stress."
"I firmly believe that people can overcome their difficulties through learning about themselves, understanding their own history and being presented with alternative ways of thinking and behaving. "
"I regard methodologies as my toolkit and I will apply what is evidenced-based. My training as a scientist orients me to rigour in my choosing interventions. Among the many approaches in my toolkit are cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy(ACT), mindfulness, trauma-focused therapies, systems family therapy, interpersonal neurobiology, hypnosis, EMDR. "
"I have a warm and non-judgemental approach and pay attention to the client's physical comfort and the physical environment, I treat them with respect and I help clients identify their strengths which helps empower them to believe in themselves."
"I learn just as much from my clients as they do during counselling. I am always in awe of the strength and perseverance of the human spirit to make a change."
"I enjoy chatting with people and gaining an insight to their experience. It’s fascinating and humbling at the same time. I love the connection we build in therapy where I can help people become the best they can be."
"I love seeing people get well and being a part of that. I consider it a privilege to be allowed into people’s lives and to help them bring about significant change therein."
"We live in an age of information overload, but sometimes that bulk of information can be confusing and even misleading. The simple act of talking to an impartial professional can be very helpful and an enormous relief."
"I like to work at the pace of each client, being guided by them in the level of connection they are ready to work with - working bit by bit to create a connection in which they find the courage to explore that part of themselves that is wounded and vulnerable; apprehensive and restless; or hassled and tense. "
Coomera and Miami
"The most rewarding part of treating clients with severe stress is in seeing the weight lifted from their shoulders as they manage their stressors and begin to live easier lives. This is also true for clients with anxiety and depression."
"I love doing this work as I feel so privileged to be able to support individuals who are vulnerable, yet who are willing to trust me with their vulnerability so that with the necessary skills I can guide and support them to make wise choices to enable them to live the life that they want, and the life that they deserve."
"I find it rewarding to see clients becoming more empowered and having new tools to self manage and reduce their symptoms - whether they are suffering depression, anxiety or stress."
"It is so important to work together at the pace chosen by the client because each person has unique circumstances. I use a joint approach where the client chooses the goals they wish to achieve. There is no room for ‘judgment’ because every circumstance is unique and judgment ‘gets in the way’ of honest exploration which is the basis of therapy. My approach is gentle with knowledgeable guidance, and it is evidence-based."
"Counselling clients with depression is extremely rewarding, particularly when they regain a sense of vitality and start looking towards the future."
Oxley & Sunnybank Hills
"I help clients feel comfortable and supported by providing a warm supportive unbiased environment where they are free of judgement and can express their thoughts and beliefs freely. "
Armadale and Camberwell
"I like to help my clients get clearer about their situation, more hopeful about their future, more confident to tackle problems, more resilient to cope with things they can’t control, and more accepting of themselves and others."""
North Perth, Heathridge
"I love working as a psychologist, to see lives changed and clients feel their future is full of hope; or just to be with others in their suffering if that is all that they seek."
"Many clients that I teach relaxation and meditation skills to say it’s the first time they’ve actually had a “real” experience of being relaxed."
"I love to support clients through challenging times in their lives and help them feel so much calmer. I love helping them find positive solutions to old problems and overcome limiting thoughts, feelings and behaviours."
"I love doing this work because I get to provide people with knowledge and power to improve their understanding of themselves and others and improve their lives. Nothing should stop people from achieving their goals and I enjoy helping people to achieve theirs."
Ardross & Manning
