Male depression is a very different cluster of behaviours.
It is not very well known in the general community and is often missed. It has 4 patterns
of behaviour:
1. Discontent with yourself
2. Antagonism and blaming others
3. Exaggerated behaviour
4. Avoidance and escape.

Post Natal depression is also a very common form of depression for women after giving birth, particularly after the first baby.

  • What factor creates the best therapeutic help for you?

    Time and time again, research has shown that the therapist/client relationship, or therapeutic alliance, as we call it, is the most important factor in successful therapy.

    So feeling that your Psychologist is a good “fit” for you, seeks to understand you, shows empathy for you and provides you with helpful insight into your particular problems is very important.

    If for some reason we have booked you in with one of our Psychologists that you don’t have this level of comfort and fit with, please ring our office and we will endeavour to find a more suitable Psychologist for you.

    This rarely happens at the Hart Centre, but we want to make sure that you are happy with the assistance you are receiving as this “fit” is more important for your progress than any particular therapy your Psychologist may be using.

  • What to Expect on Your First Appointment

    Your first appointment can feel daunting if you haven’t been to see a Psychologist before. Please be assured that we will make you feel at home as we are here to genuinely help you. Our therapeutic alliance with you is very important to us.

    We will use this initial session to gain a good understanding of your particular situation and symptoms, to assist in a diagnosis and a deeper insight into the way you are feeling.
    Then we will give you a plan for your treatment and how you might progress over the following weeks. You will also leave with some beginning strategies to start your therapy straight away.
    We look forward to helping you become happier, more centred in your own being, and more fulfilled in your life.
